Digital in-seat ordering at the Gloria Palast Munich

When premium service and digital innovation work together perfectly

At the Gloria Palast in Munich, cinema begins long before the film starts.

Since it opened in 1956 and its premium relaunch by the Kinopolis group in 2012, the venue has stood for stylish film culture and the highest standard of service in the cinema.

With service directly at the seat, fine food and an atmosphere that recalls the glamorous days of cinema, guests here experience more than just a film: they enjoy a piece of culture, comfort and personal attention.

Yet even a cinema with a great tradition only stays alive if it keeps developing. Today the Gloria Palast combines its classic sense of service with digital innovation and offers its guests more ways than ever to shape their cinema visit individually.

The challenge: 240 guests in 40 minutes

With up to 240 guests and only 40 minutes of pre-programme, service at the Gloria Palast is a genuine logistical feat.

The goal: serve every guest quickly, personally and to a high standard.

Digital premium service with a personal touch

After the pandemic, the Gloria Palast looked for ways to develop its well-known premium service further without losing its personal signature.

Introducing the CineOrder solution for digital in-seat ordering was therefore not a replacement for personal service, but an extension of the experience.

“Our guests expect variety and quality. CineOrder helps us to bring both together: premium service, digital simplicity and the good feeling of having a choice.”

The solution: premium service with digital flexibility

CineOrder, the solution for digital in-seat ordering among other things, extends classic service with a modern, intuitive way to order in the auditorium, from home or on the move.

Discover our solutions
At the Gloria Palast, guests now have the choice:
  • to order in the classic way from the service staff
  • spontaneously in the auditorium by QR code via CineOrder
  • or comfortably from home through the CineOrder webshop.

When the online ticket is validated, CineOrder starts the ordering process automatically: the receipt is printed straight at the bar, the team prepares the order and then delivers it directly to the seat. The result is a smooth process.

For guests just as much as for the staff.

“We wanted to leave the choice to our guests. Anyone who values personal service gets it. Anyone who prefers to order digitally can do so just as comfortably. That makes service more varied, not more interchangeable.”

Results: efficiency meets experience

Combining personal service with digital in-seat ordering brings noticeable improvements to the workflow and measurable results:

  • Hybrid flexibility: depending on the film, the audience and the time of day, the team can decide how digitally or how classically to work.
  • Faster processes: online and pre-orders are sent straight to the bar. Often the order is ready before the guest reaches their seat.
  • Better planning: pre-orders help to spread out peak times and to use resources ideally.
  • Higher service quality in the cinema: guests can take the initiative and waiting times disappear. Service gains calm, structure and personal attention.
  • More revenue: guests often order more online because they discover the whole range.

The solution is a gain for the team as well:

processes become clearer, peak times easier to plan, and personal attention stays where it counts most.

“With a full auditorium, reaching for your phone is really rather pleasant, for guests and for the team alike. You simply have one more option.”

Looking ahead

Digital in-seat ordering is being used more and more often at the Gloria Palast. The team plans to point guests towards it even more deliberately in future, for example with QR notes in the menu or exclusive pre-order campaigns.

“The future at the Gloria Palast is hybrid: digital, personal and flexible at the same time. When we give guests choices, in the end that also raises the quality of service in the cinema.”
