Benefit now from the BKM's new cinema funding programme
From early November 2025, the new BKM cinema funding programme (the German Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media) launches under the title “Liebling Kino”.
This new cinema programme award recognises cinemas that offered a particularly diverse, culturally valuable or creative film programme over the past year.
The aim of the initiative is to support cinemas in Germany that actively help to make German, European and artistically ambitious film accessible to a broad audience. A total of 7 million euros is available.
What is funded?
The cinema funding programme in Germany is aimed at cinemas that showed a significant share of

German films,
-
European productions or
-
artistically creative works
in their annual programme.
The exact level of funding is determined by a points system – depending on audience numbers, programme diversity and the cinema’s cultural commitment. Applications are submitted through the German Federal Film Board (FFA).
Please note: the official start of the application period has been postponed to 06 November 2025.
